POSITANO

Positano, that adorable cliff side village on the southern side of Italy’s Amalfi Coast. We absolutely loved Positano and spent three days here, which in my opinion is more than enough. Ideally, if you’re staying in Positano, I recommend taking a ferry to Ravello, Sorrento and Amalfi itself.

THINGS TO DO

  • Montepertusso - the term literally means hole in the mountain and if you're looking for a work out Montepertusso is the perfect way to get you moving.  Make sure your excursion starts in the morning, because the city gets hot! Expect loads of stairs but it’s an incredible workout and the views are spectacular
  •  Path of the Gods- An even more extensive work out, but hey, it helps burn off all those carb calories!
  • La Reggia Outlets - if shopping is your thing, check out this outlet destination. It’s about an hour away from Positano and unless you’re a super shopper you will need a full day for this excursion. Refer back to my Capri post for details on driver.

Restaurants

  • La Sponda in Le Sirenuse – pretty, fancy pre fixe dinner, reservations are a must well in advance. They do get cancellations, so if you can’t get ressos, get on their waiting list and have the concierge at the hotel, call to check in status.

  • Chez Black – a famous hot spot right on the beach. The food was incredible, definitely try the famous fish soup, by far my favorite dish there. Be ready to share it’s HUGE!

  • Il San Pietro – beautiful to go for sunset drinks – the view is gorgeous!! Don’t eat there – not worth it.

Lunch

  • Villa Treville – You can definitely go here for the day. They have their own private beach and you can have lunch here.
  • Da Adolfo  – beach club is pretty hard to get in, definitely make reservations prior.
  • La Scogliera - We spent two days straight here pretty much. It's a super chill place with incredible mixologists and the best oysters and caviar by the sea.

Hotel

We stayed at the gorgeous Villa Rosa. It came highly recommended by numerous friends and it screams all things Positano. Book in advance this hotel gets sold out quickly. It's also prime location, high enough for all the views, but low enough where you don't kill yourself with the walk up.

All the rooms have a beautiful view, and I asked for the one with the largest terrace. One night we didn't even go to dinner but had our friends over and did a mini dinner party on our terrace. It was amazing!

Must Haves

  • Marinated anchovies
  • Peaches in White wine – never on the menu, but you should definitely ask at every restaurant you visit. Also ask ahead as it takes about 30/40 minutes to marinade
  • Spaghetti with zucchini at La Scoglio
  • Tomato salad with arugula
  • Go to the grocery stores and buy fruit – wild strawberries, peaches, etc

[gallery ids="8542,8525,8524,8523"]

  • Definitely have a pair of sandals made. The best ones are at The Safari Club – its close to the beach, right off the marina grande. Best quality and last the longest! I got a couple and hubby went crazy with custom loafers, he never shops so you can imagine how good they must be!

Nightlife

  • Gianfranco Russo who is part owner of Chez Black, also owns Rada and Music on the Rocks, which are right next to La Scogliera. Check them out if you're still looking to party. Loads of fun, with beach views and amazing guest DJ's.

Boat Day

By far my favorite thing to do while in Positano. It was as though I was transported into an old Italian movie. We chilled all day listening to Toto Cutugno and Adriano Celentano, while drinking Processo, swimming in grottos and eating the most delicious market food!

[gallery ids="8558,8551,8550,8548,8555,8552,8547,8544,8554,8556,8559,8549,8535,8530,8458,8456"]

We booked our boat in advance from Grassi Junior, I highly recommend them. Our captain Chirro was amazing and took us to some killer grottos, beaches and lunch along the way.

Lo Scoglio is also a must – Nerano. If you can squeeze it in. They have amazing sea urchin – you need to call and reserve it from the boat! You can ask Chirro to call and find out if they have it that day.
