EXPLORING MICHIGAN PART ONE
Last weekend, my family (my two kids, hubby, parents, brother, sister-in-law, and my two newphews), hopped into two cars to explore Michigan. I think if you grow up in Chicago you have two types of families. Those that vacation in Michigan and those that vacation in Wisconsin. My family was the latter of the two.
Although I didn't entirely grow up here and traveled quite a bit outside of the U.S. with my parents, visiting different parts of Soviet Union, Venezuela, Austria, Italy, Caribbean, and Bahamas. My family did take quite a bit of U.S. road trips once we moved to the states.
I always remember those as the most chaotic, fun times of my life! So we decided to continue the tradition and explore a bit more of the United States with the kiddos. We started out on a shorter journey, only about one thousand miles in four days and Michigan came as the winner of other destinations on our list.
We couldn't be happier with this trip! Michigan, I like to think is the Hampton's of the Midwest. Chic, beautiful and very quaint! We started our journey with a firs stop at one of our favorite vineries where I celebrated my Birthday a few years back. Fenn Valley Vineyards in Saugatuck, Michigan is a great first stop!
Continuing on our journey we spent our first night in Holland, Michigan, which very much looks exactly like Holland! Worth a visit and a great spot for photos...I'll be sharing those later this week!
Day two was spent with a quick stop in Cadillac, Michigan and our journey continued to our most awaited destination, Mackinac Island, Michigan. I've been dying to come to this island for such a long time and have heard nothing but the greatest things about it. Upon arrival we were all floored at how gorgeous this island really is. It's nothing like I've ever seen before and feels just like you landed in the movie Pleasantville. No cars are allowed on this island, just bicycles and horses. Super cool and very exotic!
We stayed at the The Inn at Stonecliffe. This beautiful 1904 mansion was built for meatpacking baron Michael Cudahy. The Tudor Revival mansion was designed by the high-society architect of his day, Frederick Perkins. The mansion felt like you were transported to another time playing croquet on the mansions super manicured grounds overlooking the Mackinac Bridge and enjoying cocktails by the fire pits.
