A NURSERY STORY

_MG_5333

It's hard to believe that just a few days over four weeks ago I was frantically nesting (cleaning, re-decorating, remodeling and re-organizing) my entire house to make sure everything would be perfect for the arrival of my little girl... Thalia Sky!

Now she's finally here, and living in this room that I was dreaming and designing in my head for so many months. I decided since it's her one month birthday, to share her room with you and also make a killer gift/interior decor guide for your home!

A little back story. I wasn't sure if Thalia was going to be a girl or a boy (obviously), and I was convinced she was a boy early on in my pregnancy. Heck, hubby and I referred to her as, "meatloaf" so sorry Baby T!

So when designing and looking for pieces, I knew I wanted black and white with gilded gold accents. Then, if it was a boy I was going to add grey or navy (to re-upholster the rocking chair)  and for a girl add bright magenta accents, the color of the Nursery Works rocking chair I knew I would use. Everything was based around the Nursery Works studio crib  and the rocking chair. They were key pieces of furniture I knew I wanted to and needed to re-use.

By the way I've been asked quite a bit regarding the crib. It's called the Studio Crib by Nursery Works. It was a limited edition crib I got for my first born almost nine years ago. It was crazy expensive but I have to say it lasted for this long, and is comfortably being used by my third babe. We also lived in the city and the crib is ideal for small spaces. It has a changing table and plenty of storage built in. The crib also converts to a toddler bed and the changing table becomes a desk, all you need to do is pull up a chair! The crib has been sold out as you can imagine but I've found some outlet dealers that still have it HERE, HERE and some other cool Nursery Works rockers and cribs HERE. Oh, and guess what?! It's now a much better price as well.

Now, back to the decor. I love black and white everything, my entire house, which you can see HERE is black and white. I'm also a big believer that your kids rooms shouldn't be too babyish. As a mama of three, I'll tell you. They love switching it up. Heck! So do I. This way I have the ability to move some of the pieces around the house and it all goes together. Nothing is too kiddy and the room will transition nicely to a toddler and an older child.

I found some incredible black, white and gold pieces from the new Marimekko collection for Target, the Oh Joy! collection for Target, The Land of Nod, Pottery Barn Kids (Emily & Merrit), PB Teen and ShopBop has some adorable home pieces as well. If you're too lazy or don't have time to look, make sure you scroll down, I've put together almost 200 of my most loved products from so many of my favorite sites below. Consider me as your personal interior designer!!! FYI, thinking of starting another business so if you need deign or decorating tips...HOLLAH!

Another super important part to this room was the moldings. I love moldings, I have them in my dining room and crown moldings through out my entire house. However for Thalia's room I was thinking of something even more special and whymsical.

While preggo with T I traveled to Bavaria, aka land of romance and magical fairy castles! I was so inspired by the ornate moldings in all the castles, and also Marry-Go-Rounds (if you hold on to the pole it is made out of a rope). I knew I wanted rope moldings, which are typically used for cabinetry, but I wanted them on the walls. It honestly made a world of a difference. I decided her room would be a bright white, just like the gallery walls I saw in so many beautiful castles. I love the Aria collection by Benjamin Moore. It paints and looks like velvet. My entire house is painted in Snow White.
